Day One: A little bit of everything!

Arrival – Colombo | City Tour

Arrive in Colombo to make an excellent start to your Srilankan adventure. Unplugged Life’s representative will be at the Bandaranaike International Airport to receive you and assist you with onward transfers.

Reach the hotel, check-in, and get ready for an indulging city tour.

Colombo: Tucked away on the west coast of Sri Lanka, Colombo is a city of contrast that boasts an eclectic mix of modern and colonial impressions.

Delve into the city’s vibrant history and culture at the many places you visit today on your Colombo city tour:

  • Galle Face Green: A humongous 5 ha urban park overlooking the ocean, sprawled along the coast on a stretch of 500 m. The promenade is lined with shops and buildings and is a perfect spot that also imparts beautiful views of the rippling blanket of the brochure-blue ocean.
  • Viharamahadevi Park: Viharamahadevi is the largest and oldest centrally located park which is marked with a massive Golden Buddha statue that sits peacefully amid the green environs of the park. Ideal for leisure strolls.
  • National Museum: Understand the history of Colombo through interesting exhibits and informative labels at the National Museum.
  • Twin World Trade Center towers: Twin World Trade Center is centrally located in the heart of the metro. The WTC has two 39 story towers connected by the 4 story retail block encompassing. 120 local, international, and multinational brands. This 152m tall commercial landmark is the center point of trade, depicting a ‘One-Stop-Shop’ concept.
  • Old Parliament Building: Old Parliament Building in Colombo boasts a neo-baroque style of construction that dates back to the 1930s. It is a fascinating landmark that overlooks the sea and sits lavishly in the Colombo Fort area.
  • Fort district: Fort District is the city’s commercial hub where you’ll explore the busy harbor, the stock exchange, and the World Trade Centre (twin towers) along with other dynamic buildings of cultural and political importance.
  • Independence Hall at Independence Square: A historical monument constructed to commemorate Independence obtained in1948. The striking building rests on 48 pillars and is adorned by an imposing statue of the first president of Independent Sri Lanka.

Along with the above-mentioned landmarks, you will also visit other prominent Buddhist, Hindu, Islam, and Christian places of worship. (Entrance fees to sites not included).

Day Two: From Sweltering Coastals to Brisk Inland Hills!

Arrival – 4 Hrs (110 km) Drive from Colombo to Kandy

Embark on a comforting journey to Kandy after breakfast.

Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka and is the second-largest city in Sri Lanka. It is also famed as one of the seven UNESCO-declared World Heritage sites in the country. From cool inland hills to pristine lakes and dramatic landscapes; Kandy is simply picturesque!

Kandy Lake: Kandy Lake is locally known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk which is an artificial lake built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. As you saunter around the lake, you may spot exotic ducks and schools of fish following their regular routine. You can also go boating in the lake besides walking and exploring.

Kandy View Point: Kandy View Point is a celebrated platform to capture some amazing panoramic views of the hill city. The elevated platform overlooks the Kandy Lake and the encircling ancient temples.

If time permits, you may also visit the Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue, Royal Botanic Gardens, and Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Later in the evening, get ready to be entertained at a Traditional Kandyan Dance (National Dance of Sri Lanka) performance. Kandyan is a traditional art form that originated in the 16th century which mainly features refined and sophisticated mudras (postures).

Return to your hotel and retire in the comfort of your room after dinner.

Day Three: Sun, Sand & Sea in Bentota!

Driving – Kandy to Bentota

If you are a lover of the sea, today is your day. After breakfast drive from Kandy to Bentota.

  • Bentota is the city of the Golden Beaches, often known as the resort town on the Southwest Coast of Srilanka. Bentota is a coastal town fringed with palm trees and shimmering shores, sited 62 km South of Colombo, almost 175 km from Kandy.
  • As you reach the town, the day is all yours to decide whether to swim in the waters or bask in the sun. Later, in the afternoon, pick a place on the beach for a scrumptious lunch.
  • Let the sea sound of the waves soothe you as you stray away in thoughts amid the enchanting paradise of Bentota.

Day Four: Rewinding Time!

Bentota: Excursion to Tsunami Museum, Galle Fort & Hikkaduwa Beach

Bentota City tour:

  • After a filling breakfast, proceed to the highly informative Tsunami Museum – a fitting tribute to honor the places and people lost in Tsunami.
  • Thereafter, enjoy a boat ride along the Madhu River. According to folklore, the Madhu delta encompasses 64 small islands, most of which are covered in thick forests and shrubs. On your boat ride, you will snake through many islets lined with mangroves.
  • At some inhabited islands, you may also encounter fishing, prawn hunting, and peeling of authentic cinnamon trees.

Galle Fort: Drive to Galle Fort for exploration and lunch.

Galle Fort is a significant archeological, architectural, and historic monument that demonstrates the European influence on the country. Primarily built by the Portuguese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka in the 16th century, it underwent a major renovation in the 17th century by the hands of the Dutch, thereafter, gained recognition as the Dutch Fort.

Hikkaduwa Beach: Thronged with a variety of beach shacks, beach bars, and hotels, Hikkaduwa Beach is one of the cleanest beaches to visit in Sri Lanka. The water brims with exotic marine life; lots of sea turtles, fish, and brightly colored corals are easily visible through the water. You can choose to snorkel to enjoy the visual delight underwater or can opt for the glass bottom boats to enjoy the famed coral gardens of Hikkaduwa.
